Overview
Tom Hubmann is an illustrator, visual artist and academic based in Cornwall (UK). He divides his time between commercial work, personal projects, teaching and research. Each strand feeds back into one another resulting in a highly reflective overall practise. He is also a father of two, husband of one and his interests centre around wildlife, nature, conservation, outdoor sports, food, drink and music.
Art
His visual practise is underpinned by creating engaging, playful and graphic responses to client facing and self initiated briefs. Employing a range of process including drawing, painting, collage, printmaking and digital enable him to work in a wide range of contexts and visual languages. He has extensive experience working as a freelance commercial illustrator as well as undertaking roles such as artistic director and consultant for more strategic long term projects. Exhibiting works in solo and groups shows in the UK and abroad, winning artistic residencies and generating his own authorial projects allow him to explore new ways of working, allowing his practise to constantly evolve and stay relevant.
Academia
Tom has both a personal and professional research interest in how the visual arts can be actively used to mitigate the impact of climate change. He has been awarded funding to collaborate with scientists and researchers, participated in global research conferences, written papers and undertaken a range of personal projects to practically understand this theme further. He currently holds a position as a module leader at Falmouth University on the BA (hons) Illustration course and regularly gives guest lectures, talks and workshops in a range of formal and informal educational settings.
